Orange alert issued for thunderstorms and hail in Odisha
Bhubaneswar, April 8: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning for severe weather across several districts of Odisha on Thursday, cautioning residents to remain alert during afternoon and evening hours.
According to the forecast, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds reaching 50–60 kmph, and hail are very likely at isolated places in Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Keonjhar. These districts have been placed under orange alert due to the potential intensity of the weather conditions.
Additionally, heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and strong winds of similar speed is expected in parts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, and Keonjhar. Cuttack may also witness intense spells of rain with wind speeds of 40–50 kmph.
A yellow warning has been issued for multiple districts including Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati, where moderate thunderstorms and gusty winds are expected.
On April 10 and the following day, similar thunderstorm activity is likely over northern and coastal districts. While no major warning is issued for Day 4, hot and humid conditions are expected to prevail across the state from April 12 to 15.
