IMD issues thunderstorm alert for Odisha; orange and yellow warnings in multiple districts
Bhubaneswar, Mar 27: The India Meteorological Department has issued weather warnings for several districts in Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, hail, and gusty winds over the next two days.
An orange warning has been sounded for Mayurbhanj, Sundergarh, Keonjhar and Balasore, where thunderstorms with lightning, hail, and wind speeds of 50–60 kmph are likely at isolated places. The IMD has urged residents in these areas to remain cautious and avoid open spaces during adverse weather conditions.
A yellow warning has also been issued for districts including Gajapati and Ganjam, where thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph are expected. Several other districts such as Cuttack, Puri, Khurda and Sambalpur are also likely to experience similar weather conditions.
For March 29, the regional weather office has specifically issued an orange warning for Mayurbhanj district, predicting thunderstorms with lightning and strong winds reaching up to 60 kmph.
Authorities have advised people to stay alert and take necessary precautions as the state braces for unstable weather conditions.
