Violent clash at BJB College hostels leaves 25 students injured; police deployed
Bhubaneswar, Mar 18: Tension gripped the campus of BJB Autonomous College after a violent clash broke out between two groups of students on Tuesday, leaving more than 25 students injured and prompting heavy police deployment.
According to reports, the clash erupted between residents of Ashok Hostel and Ambedkar Hostel, allegedly triggered by a dispute over stopping music during a farewell party at Ashok Hostel. What began as a minor disagreement quickly escalated into a major confrontation, with students from both sides engaging in stone-pelting and hurling bottles at each other.
The hostel premises turned chaotic as the violence intensified, creating panic among students and staff. Several students sustained serious injuries in the clash and were immediately shifted to Capital Hospital for treatment.
In response to the situation, security forces, including three platoons of Odisha Police, were deployed to bring the situation under control. Senior officials, including the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police and Zonal Assistant Commissioner of Police, remained present at the site through Wednesday morning to prevent any further escalation.
Authorities have also set up a permanent police camp at the hostel premises to closely monitor the situation and maintain law and order, while an investigation into the incident is currently underway.
