Bhubaneswar, Mar 17: A tragic incident unfolded in Jadupur village under the Arakhakuda Marine Police limits in Puri district late Monday night, where a woman was brutally beaten to death and her daughter left critically injured following a violent altercation.

The deceased has been identified as Laxmi Jena, while her daughter Namita is currently undergoing treatment. According to reports, the violence erupted after an argument between the accused and his sister-in-law. What began as a verbal dispute quickly spiralled out of control, with the accused allegedly turning physically aggressive.

As tensions escalated, Laxmi Jena intervened in an attempt to calm the situation. However, the accused reportedly attacked her with a wooden stick. Namita, who was also caught in the violence, sustained severe injuries during the assault.

Both victims were initially taken to a nearby healthcare centre before being shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Puri as their condition worsened. Doctors later declared Laxmi Jena dead, while Namita remains under medical care.

Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
