Thunderstorms and light rain likely in several Odisha districts for next three days
Bhubaneswar, Mar 7: Light rain and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely to affect several districts of Odisha over the next three days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.
According to the IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin, an upper air cyclonic circulation persists over Odisha and adjoining areas, extending up to about 1.5 km above mean sea level. Meteorologists said a trough from this system stretches towards northwest Uttar Pradesh across Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, while another trough extends from Odisha to coastal Karnataka passing through Telangana and interior Karnataka.
Under the influence of these weather systems, light to moderate rain or thunderstorms may occur at one or two places in districts such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Kandhamal, Bargarh and Sonepur. Other districts are expected to experience mainly dry weather.
The IMD has issued a yellow warning for March 8, predicting thunderstorms with lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 30–40 kmph at isolated places across the state.
For March 9, an orange alert has been issued for Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Sundargarh districts, where thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40–50 kmph are likely.
Meanwhile, a yellow warning has been sounded for several other districts including Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Boudh for the same day.
