Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik , the second longest serving chief minister in the country turned 78 today . He is the only third Indian Chief Minister after Pawan Chamling and Jyoti Basu to win five consecutive terms as Chief Minister .

According to a press release from CM Office, Chief Minister will not celebrate his birthday today (Oct 16) in view of the demise of his sister and eminent author Geeta Mehta in September this year. Chief Minister has urged his well-wishers not to visit his residence (Naveen Niwas) in the capital city here to wish him on his birthday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on his birthday.Prime Minister wrote on twitter “My greetings to Odisha CM Shri Naveen Patnaik Ji on his birthday. May he be blessed with a long and healthy life. “ 

Naveen Patnaik, son of former chief minister Biju Patnaik, was born on October 16, 1946 in Cuttack. He has been working as the Chief Minister of the state for the past 23 years.  His uncompromising lifestyle, strong leadership and popularity are now the subject of research. He has created a special place in the hearts of the people by giving autocratic rule to the people of Odisha for 23 years

After the death of Bijubabu, Naveen Patnaik , who was  complete newcomer in politics, is now the front-line politician of India. After winning the Lok Sabha seat in 1997, he was the Minister of Steel and Mines at the Center from 1998 to 2000. In 2000, he was appointed the Chief Minister of Odisha after BJD came to power by making alliance with BJP. Even after the breakup between BJP and BJD in 2009, BJD became the single largest party under the leadership of Naveen Patnaik and Naveen's post of Chief Minister remained intact. Since 2000, Naveen Patnaik has been the chief minister for many years as an unopposed leader in five elections and has set new records in the history of Odisha. Even in the general and assembly elections of 2014 and 2019, amidst the Modi wave which has deposed the ruling non-BJP parties and their leaders in most states of the country , did not work in Odisha. Naveen patnaik’s magic has surpassed Modi Hawa to achieve a new record of success.

A face that was once unknown in politics has gained a certain familiarity across the country. He has ruled the state for more than two decades. None of the opposition's tactics have succeeded in defeating Naveen Patnaik yet. With the love and blessings of the people of Odisha, he is serving as the Chief Minister for the fifth time.
