Class VIII student found with gun in school bag in Balasore, parents stage protest
Bhubaneswar, Jan 30: Panic gripped Dasmohapatra Banchhanidhi Government High School under Khantapada block in Balasore district after a Class VIII student was found carrying a gun inside his school bag on the campus. The shocking discovery triggered fear among students and parents, leading to a protest outside the school premises.
According to reports, a few classmates noticed the firearm in the student’s bag shortly before the school was about to close. They immediately informed the school authorities, following which the principal placed the matter before the School Management Committee. The committee promptly alerted Khantapada police to prevent any untoward incident.
Soon after, a Khantapada Assistant Sub-Inspector reached the school, seized the gun and took the student into custody. However, the situation turned tense when agitated parents gathered at the spot and surrounded the police officer, suspecting that the student was being shielded. They demanded strict action and assurances regarding the safety of their children.
Police officials managed to defuse the situation and safely rescued the student from the crowd after nearly two hours. Sources said the student will be questioned in the presence of his parents on Saturday. The seized firearm will be sent to the State Forensic Science Laboratory in Bhubaneswar to determine whether it is functional and to trace its origin.
