Bhubaneswar, Jan 29: The last rites of 31-year-old Army jawan Jitu Behera were performed with full state honours at his native Anandapalli village in Nayagarh district, plunging the area into deep grief. Jitu Behera was serving as a Naik in the Indian Army’s NK Rank in the Tangdhar sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

According to reports, the young soldier collapsed while on duty on January 26, Monday, following a suspected cardiac arrest. He was immediately rushed to a nearby health centre, but despite prompt medical attention, doctors declared him dead. News of his sudden demise sent shockwaves through his family and village.

Jitu’s mortal remains were brought back to Anandapalli on Wednesday evening. As the body arrived, a large crowd of villagers, relatives, and well-wishers gathered to pay their final respects. A solemn procession was taken out in the village, with police personnel from Itamati and Nayagarh district rendering a ceremonial salute to honour his service and sacrifice.

The entire village remains in mourning, struggling to cope with the sudden loss. The tragedy has been particularly devastating for Jitu’s wife, as the couple had been married only a few months ago, making the loss even more heartbreaking for the family.
