Odisha gets relief from cold wave as night temperatures rise across districts
Bhubaneswar, Jan 20: Odisha is witnessing a welcome respite from the recent cold wave, with night temperatures rising across several districts, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The improvement in weather has brought relief to residents who had been battling intense cold conditions over the past few days.
As per IMD data, Jharsuguda and Keonjhar recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 13.4°C. Bhubaneswar followed at 14.4°C, while Balasore and Paradip registered 15°C each. Chandbali was slightly warmer at 15.2°C. Coastal towns also experienced milder nights, with Gopalpur recording 16.8°C and Puri 17.4°C.
The IMD attributed the rise in temperature to active western disturbances influencing the region. Weather officials forecast a further increase in night temperatures, with a fluctuation of 2–3°C expected over the next four days.
Day temperatures have also gone up across the state. Paralakhemundi emerged as the hottest place in Odisha at 32°C. At least eight towns recorded maximum temperatures above 31°C, indicating an early rise in heat. IMD scientist Umashankar Das said Sambalpur, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh followed closely at 31.8°C each.
