Dense fog disrupts flight operations at Bhubaneswar Airport; three flights cancelled, 15 delayed
Bhubaneswar, Jan 2: Dense fog continued to disrupt air traffic at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar on Thursday, causing major inconvenience to passengers. As per official sources, three flights were cancelled and at least 15 others were delayed due to poor visibility conditions. The affected flights were scheduled to operate to key destinations including Delhi, Ahmedabad, and Kolkata.
Reports said that several flights faced delays of up to four hours as foggy conditions severely hampered take-off and landing operations. Passengers were seen waiting at the airport for extended periods, while airlines kept them updated about revised departure timings and cancellations.
The situation follows similar disruptions witnessed on the previous day, when dense fog had also impacted flight schedules. Weather officials indicated that foggy conditions are likely to persist, further affecting aviation operations in the region.
On Thursday morning, visibility at the airport dropped drastically to around 50 metres at about 6:30 am, making it unsafe for aircraft movement. Normally, a minimum visibility of 550 metres is required for smooth and safe flight operations.
Airport authorities are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with airlines to minimise inconvenience. Passengers have been advised to check flight status before heading to the airport as weather conditions remain uncertain.
