Truck following Google maps crashes into house in Bhadrak village, vehicle seized
Bhubaneswar, Jan 1: A major mishap was narrowly avoided on Thursday when a truck mistakenly entered a residential village and rammed into a house while following directions on Google Maps in Digachia village under Chandbali block of Bhadrak district. The incident caused panic among local residents, though no injuries were reported.
According to sources, the truck was en route to Dhamara Port when the driver, unfamiliar with the local route, relied on the Google Maps navigation app for directions. Due to incorrect guidance, the vehicle diverted from the Bhadrak–Chandbali main road and entered Digachia village via the narrow Patra Sahi road. The heavy truck struggled to navigate the congested village lanes and eventually lost control, crashing into the house of a local resident, identified as Ramesh Das.
The incident led to tension in the area, with agitated villagers gathering at the spot and expressing anger over the negligence. They promptly informed the Bansada police about the mishap. Upon receiving information, police personnel rushed to the scene, pacified the locals and brought the situation under control.
Police have seized the truck for further investigation. Authorities have also advised drivers, especially those unfamiliar with rural routes, to verify directions before entering village roads to prevent such incidents in the future.
