Manja string accident leaves two critically injured in Cuttack’s 42 Mouza area
Bhubaneswar, Dec 31: A horrific accident on the river embankment road near Sriram Sahi in Cuttack’s 42 Mouza area on Saturday left a motorcycle rider and his aunt critically injured, triggering concern among local residents over the unsafe use of manja strings for kite flying.
The victims have been identified as Debi Kalyan Acharya and his aunt, Ashalata Acharya. They were travelling on a motorcycle when they suddenly came into contact with a manja string that was hanging dangerously across the road. The sharp string reportedly struck Debi Kalyan on the neck, causing a deep and severe cut. His aunt also sustained a serious neck injury in the incident.
Following the accident, locals rushed the injured duo to a nearby hospital for immediate treatment. However, as Debi Kalyan’s condition worsened, he was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital for advanced medical care. Both victims are currently undergoing treatment, and their condition is said to be critical.
The incident has sparked anger among residents of the area, who have demanded strict action against the illegal sale and use of manja strings, which pose a serious threat to motorists and pedestrians. Locals have also urged the authorities and police to take cognisance of the matter and enforce stronger safety measures to prevent such life-threatening accidents in the future.
