Cold wave to intensify in Odisha from December 25, IMD warns of dense fog
Bhubaneswar, Dec 22: Odisha is likely to witness intensified cold wave conditions from December 25, as dry and cold north-westerly winds begin to sweep across the state following the passage of a western disturbance, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday. The weather system’s departure is expected to trigger a further fall in night temperatures, making conditions harsher in several regions.
At present, the state is already reeling under severe cold, with dense fog enveloping many areas, particularly in districts such as Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Kandhamal, and Koraput. The IMD has cautioned that fog intensity may increase further due to moisture-laden air circulation, potentially reducing visibility and affecting road, rail, and air travel.
According to today’s forecast, dense fog is very likely at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, and Kandhamal. Shallow to moderate fog may also occur in districts including Sambalpur, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Angul, Deogarh, Kalahandi, and Koraput.
Similar weather conditions are expected to prevail on December 23, with dense fog again likely in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, and Kandhamal. Residents have been advised to remain cautious during early morning and late night hours.
