Class IX student death case: Bhubaneswar court denies bail to eight KISS officials, sends them to jail
Bhubaneswar, Dec 18: In a significant development in the case related to the death of a Class IX student, the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court in Bhubaneswar has rejected the bail applications of eight accused, including a senior official of the Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS). The court ordered that all eight be remanded to judicial custody and sent to Jharpada Jail.
According to reports, the court denied bail after considering the gravity and seriousness of the allegations levelled against the accused. The JMFC court observed that custodial detention was necessary at this stage of the investigation and accordingly rejected their pleas.
Those remanded to judicial custody include KISS Additional CEO Pramod Kumar Patra, TGT teacher Binay Kumar Gochhi, senior academic coordinator Prasanna Kumar Malla, teacher Pradeep Kumar Das, KISS Secondary School headmaster Rashmiranjan Nayak, hostel assistant field officer Hemant Kumar Mahapatra, boys’ hostel supervisor Shubhakanta Behera, and assistant teacher Sujata Mishra.
Following the court order, all the accused were escorted to Jharpada Jail. Meanwhile, police have also detained three students in connection with the case and are questioning them to ascertain their alleged role in the incident. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death is ongoing.
