Odisha Vigilance arrests Dasmantpur IIC for alleged rs 20,000 bribe in Koraput
Bhubaneswar, Dec 18: In a major crackdown on corruption within the police department, Odisha Vigilance on Thursday arrested Sukma Hansdah, the Inspector In Charge (IIC) of Dasmantpur Police Station in Koraput district, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 in exchange for submitting a case diary in court.
According to Vigilance sources, Hansdah had allegedly demanded the bribe from a relative of an accused person, assuring that the case diary would be produced in court to facilitate the accused’s bail. Disturbed by the demand, the relative approached Odisha Vigilance authorities and lodged a complaint.
Following the complaint, a trap was laid by a Vigilance team. Hansdah was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting the bribe amount of Rs 20,000 from the complainant. The entire amount was recovered from his possession and seized as evidence.
Subsequently, Vigilance officials launched searches at two locations linked to the accused IIC from the disproportionate assets angle. Further verification of his financial dealings is underway.
A case has been registered against Hansdah under Koraput Vigilance Police Station Case No. 39/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. The investigation is continuing.
