Winter grip tightens in state capital as temperature drops to 13°C

Bhubaneswar, Dec 11: The winter chill intensified in the state capital today, with the morning temperature dipping to 13°C at 5:30 am. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the city has witnessed a sharp fall of 9.6°C over the last ten days, signalling the arrival of a strong cold spell.

Since December 1, Bhubaneswar has been experiencing a steady decline in minimum temperatures. The month began on a milder note at 22.6°C, but the mercury has consistently slipped downward. On December 2, the minimum temperature eased to 21°C, followed by a sharper drop to 17.2°C on December 3 and 17°C on December 4. The cooling trend strengthened further as temperatures dipped to 15°C on December 5, 14.4°C on December 6, and 13.4°C on December 7.

A brief fluctuation was recorded thereafter, with the temperature rising slightly to 13.6°C on December 8 and 15°C on December 9. However, the relief was short-lived as the temperature again dropped to 14°C on December 10. Today’s 13°C reading marks one of the coldest mornings of the season.

With the IMD forecasting a continued fall in temperature in the coming days, the city is firmly in the grip of winter. Authorities have urged residents—especially children, the elderly, and early morning commuters—to take adequate precautions to stay warm and safe.
