IMD issues yellow warning for dense fog in seven Odisha districts on December 5 & 6
Bhubaneswar, Dec 4: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning forecasting dense fog in seven districts of Odisha—Sundargarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput, Jharsuguda, Balangir and Sonepur—on December 5 and 6. According to the IMD bulletin, “dense fog is very likely to occur at one or two places” across these districts during the early morning and night hours on both days.
The weather condition is expected to significantly reduce visibility, posing risks to commuters and potentially disrupting normal life. Motorists, particularly those travelling along highways and rural roads, may face challenges due to the thick fog cover. Pedestrians are also advised to exercise extra caution while moving outdoors in the affected areas.
The IMD has urged residents to stay alert and follow essential safety measures. Drivers have been advised to use fog lights, avoid overspeeding, and maintain safe distances to prevent accidents. Local authorities may issue additional advisories depending on the severity of fog formation. With winter gradually intensifying across the region, the weather department has emphasised the importance of preparedness to minimise fog-related hazards.
