Odisha repatriates 49 Bangladeshi nationals; CM Majhi reports intensified identification drive
Bhubaneswar, Dec 1: A total of 49 Bangladeshi nationals staying illegally in Odisha have been repatriated following an extensive identification and verification drive launched after the formation of the current BJP-led government. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi presented the details in a written statement in the Legislative Assembly on Monday, outlining the progress made in tracing unlawful foreign residents across the state.
According to the Chief Minister, 51 illegal Bangladeshi nationals have been identified so far. District-wise data shows that 24 were found in Khordha, 15 in Cuttack, six in Ganjam, three in Kandhamal, and one in Koraput. Of them, 49 have already been deported to Bangladesh. Additionally, two infiltrators were caught using forged passports, and criminal cases have been registered against them for fraudulent documentation and illegal stay.
CM Majhi further informed the House that a dedicated task committee has been formed to oversee the identification, detention, and deportation of illegal migrants. All district SPs have been instructed to intensify surveillance, conduct door-to-door verification, and closely monitor suspicious movement.
The state has set up 18 district-level detention centres and two state-level centres. As part of the ongoing drive, the identities of 1,768 suspects have been verified, with 51 declared illegal, while verification of 50 more individuals is in progress.
