Cuttack Collector withholds salaries of 91 officials for failing to resolve public grievances
Bhubaneswar, Nov 27: In a strong move aimed at restoring accountability in public service, the Cuttack District Collector has ordered the withholding of November 2025 salaries for 91 government officials who failed to address grievances registered on the state’s Janasumani Portal. The action comes after the Chief Minister’s Grievance Cell (CMGC) expressed deep dissatisfaction over Cuttack’s repeated poor performance in resolving complaints raised during the CM’s Monday grievance hearings.
The list of affected officials is extensive, covering various administrative levels and departments. It includes the Sub-Collectors of Athgarh and Banki, Block Development Officers, Tahsildars, and officials from the police, public works, rural development, water resources, and RWSS departments. The Collector noted that despite several reminders, persuasion, and review meetings, the progress in grievance disposal remained unsatisfactory.
A letter issued to the Cuttack District Treasury Officer highlighted the seriousness of the situation, stating that the district’s ranking in grievance disposal has been steadily declining. The CMGC, taking strong exception to the slackness, emphasized the need for timely and efficient grievance redressal as a critical part of good governance. The stern measure is expected to push officials to prioritize citizen complaints and improve overall administrative performance.
