Commissionerate Police imposes strict no-parking zones across Bhubaneswar to ease congestion
Bhubaneswar, Nov 24: The Police Commissionerate of Bhubaneswar–Cuttack on Monday issued a stringent order prohibiting parking along several major stretches of the capital city to ease growing traffic congestion and improve commuter safety. The directive, issued by Commissioner of Police S. Dev Datta Singh, invokes Sections 28 and 29 of the Odisha Urban Police Act, 2003, along with relevant provisions from the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023.
According to the order, rampant and unregulated parking on important city roads has been severely obstructing smooth traffic flow, causing frequent bottlenecks and inconveniencing commuters. It has also been identified as a potential safety hazard, prompting the enforcement of a strict no-parking policy on numerous key corridors, including Raj Bhawan Square–Kalarahanga Chhak, Airport–NALCO Chhak, Sishu Bhawan–Vani Vihar, Rasulgarh–Jaydev Vihar, Bapuji Nagar, Janpath, and several other busy stretches.
The restrictions have also been extended to additional routes witnessing increased traffic due to the rapid rise of commercial establishments, educational institutions, and hospitals. These include Gopabandhu Square–Kalpana Square, Jaydev Vihar–Tamando Square, CRP Square–Power House Square, KIIT Square–Infocity, and more.
The Commissionerate has warned that violations will attract penalties under the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act, 2019, and Section 223(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
