Cyclonic circulation forms over Malacca Strait; IMD predicts rainfall in Odisha for next week
Bhubaneswar, Nov 21: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported the formation of a cyclonic circulation over the central parts of the Malacca Strait, which is expected to trigger the development of a low-pressure area on Saturday. This evolving system is being closely monitored as it has the potential to influence weather conditions over eastern India in the coming days.
According to the IMD’s latest forecast, the low-pressure area is likely to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal around November 22. Once formed, it is expected to move in a west-northwest direction and gradually intensify into a depression by November 24. The system is likely to strengthen further over the southwest Bay of Bengal within the next 48 hours.
As per predictions from the regional weather centre, Odisha is likely to receive rainfall from November 27, with coastal districts expected to experience the heaviest showers. The emerging weather system may bring moderate to heavy rainfall, influencing day-to-day activities, agriculture, and marine operations.
However, the IMD has clarified that it is too early to confirm whether the system will intensify into a full-fledged cyclonic storm. Continuous monitoring is underway, and more detailed forecasts will be issued in the coming days.
