Odisha CM lLaunches 'Mission Shakti Scooter Yojana' for women's empowerment
Bhubaneswar, Oct 11: On Wednesday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the 'Mission Shakati Scooter Yojana' during an event held at the Lok Seva Bhavan Convention Center in Bhubaneswar.
During his address, the Chief Minister remarked, "Today signifies a pivotal moment in the journey of women's empowerment. We hope that this scooter scheme will simplify commuting for mothers and create fresh opportunities in the professional arena. Women have been doing a commendable job, and I firmly believe that they will excel even further. The government is extending a generous interest subsidy of Rs 528 crore. This program will benefit over 2 lakh Mission Shakti mothers and grassroots staff, with more than 15,000 already receiving their scooters today."
The 'Mission Shakti Scooter Yojana' aims to provide essential mobility support to Community Support Staff (CSS) and Executive Committee (EC) members of women's Self-Help Groups (SHGs) by enabling them to access scooters.
Under this initiative, eligible individuals will receive a full interest subvention on bank loans up to Rs 1 lakh, allowing them to purchase a scooter of their choice. This makes sustainable mobility more affordable and accessible than ever before.
By granting Mission Shakti Federation Leaders and CSS affordable access to two-wheelers, the program will enhance their ability to fulfill their responsibilities effectively, boost efficiency, and expand their reach within the community.
Approximately 75,000 Community Support Staff (CSS) and nearly 1,25,000 federation leaders will benefit from this new scheme.
Mission Shakti Secretary Sujatha Karthikeyan stated, "The launch of the Mission Shakti Scooter Scheme is a significant milestone. About 15,000 Mission Shakti mothers have already availed scooters under this scheme."
