Three children drown in Baitarani River at Jajpur; search underway for missing girl
Bhubaneswar, Nov 6: A tragic incident occurred at the Garadeswar Ghat on the banks of the Baitarani River in Jajpur district on Thursday morning, where three children reportedly drowned while taking a bath. The mishap took place around 11 a.m. when three siblings and their cousin entered the river to bathe but were swept away by a strong current.
According to eyewitnesses, a relative accompanying the children immediately raised an alarm after noticing them struggling in the water. A local fisherman, present nearby, managed to rescue two of the children after a swift response. However, one girl remains missing, sparking a massive search operation.
Upon being informed, a team from the fire services and local police rushed to the spot and began rescue efforts using boats and diving equipment. The operation is continuing, and authorities are hopeful of locating the missing child soon.
The heartbreaking incident has cast a pall of grief over the village, with locals urging the administration to install warning signs and safety measures along the riverbank to prevent such tragedies in the future.
