Infant dies after polio vaccination in Bhadrak; family alleges negligence
Bhubaneswar, Nov 4: In a tragic incident, a three-month-old infant from Nandapatna village under Basudevpur block in Bhadrak district reportedly died after being administered a polio vaccine at a local Anganwadi center. The grieving family has lodged a written complaint with the Naikanidihi police, alleging that negligence during vaccination led to the child’s death.
According to the complaint, the infant — the daughter of Rajaram Jana — was given an oral polio vaccine at the Anganwadi center on Monday morning. Later that evening, the baby developed a high fever and fell asleep. When the family checked on her the next morning, she was found unconscious. The child was immediately rushed to the Basudevpur Community Health Centre (CHC), where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
The incident has triggered panic and outrage in the locality, with villagers demanding a thorough probe into the vaccination process. Meanwhile, health officials have initiated an inquiry to determine the cause of death, and the vaccine samples have reportedly been sent for examination to rule out contamination or procedural lapses.
