Two tragic suicide cases rock Bargarh: Elderly couple, married lovers found hanging
Bhubaneswar, Nov 1: In two separate heart-wrenching incidents, four lives were lost in suspected cases of suicide in Bargarh district — an elderly couple and a pair of alleged lovers were found dead by hanging.
In the first incident, an elderly couple was discovered hanging inside their home at Ganjiha Tikra village under Bargarh Sadar police limits late Friday night. The deceased were identified as Kirati Pradhan (70) and his wife Shanti Pradhan (65). Family members revealed that the couple had been under mental distress for some time, though the reason behind the extreme step remains unclear. Police have launched an investigation.
In a separate case, a married woman and her alleged lover were found hanging from a mango tree near Bagarti Tikira under Attabira police limits. The deceased were identified as Himanshu Bhuye (41) of Sabarpada and a 35-year-old woman from Bagarti Tikira. Reports suggest the duo had been in a relationship despite being married to others, leading to family opposition.
The two had been missing for nearly a week before locals discovered their bodies on Thursday night. Police recovered the bodies on Friday and sent them for post-mortem. While Himanshu’s body was handed over to his family, the woman’s relatives allegedly refused to accept hers due to caste differences. Her last rites were later performed by a local social organisation.
Both cases are under police investigation.
