Bhubaneswar, Oct 31: In a significant development in the high-profile Pitabash Panda murder case, former Mayor and prime accused Pintu Das was transferred from Berhampur Circle Jail to Phulbani Jail on Friday morning around 8:15 am under stringent security arrangements.

According to reports, the transfer followed concerns raised over Das’s safety inside Berhampur Jail. After his arrest in connection with the murder, Das had been lodged there, but jail authorities filed an application before the Berhampur SDJM Court, citing potential threats to his life. Acting on the jail superintendent’s plea, the court approved the transfer and instructed that Das be moved to Phulbani Jail with adequate security measures.

The transfer operation was executed smoothly under heavy police escort to ensure his protection.

Meanwhile, the prosecution in the Pitabash Panda murder case will be represented by an independent government lawyer. The Berhampur Superintendent of Police has written to the CID-CB Director General, recommending the appointment of two senior government lawyers from the Orissa High Court to handle the case effectively.
