Home voting begins for Nuapada Assembly by-election, facility to continue till November 2
Bhubaneswar, Oct 30: The home voting process for the Nuapada Assembly by-election began today, marking an important step toward inclusive and accessible voting in the constituency. The special facility, designed for elderly and differently-abled voters, will continue until November 2.
According to officials, 15 dedicated polling teams have been deployed to conduct the exercise. Each team includes two polling officers, a micro-observer, a security personnel, and a videographer to ensure a fair and transparent process.
A total of 251 voters, including citizens aged 85 years and above and persons with over 40% disability, are eligible to cast their votes from home through postal ballots. “Videography of the entire process will be carried out to maintain transparency,” said Returning Officer Surmi Soren. The District Collector has also instructed all officials to make sure that no eligible voter is left out.
Meanwhile, the commissioning of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) units for all 358 polling booths in Nuapada has been completed. The three-day process, held from October 27 to 29 at National College, was conducted under the supervision of the District Election Officer.
