Cyclone shelter worker dies on duty in Gajapati amid Cyclone ‘Montha’ operations
Bhubaneswar, Oct 28: In a tragic incident, a supply assistant engaged in relief work at a cyclone shelter in Potara panchayat of Gajapati district died suddenly while on duty amid the ongoing operations for Cyclone ‘Montha’. The deceased has been identified as Surendra Gamang, a dedicated staff member who had been actively involved in managing relief supplies and ensuring the safety of evacuees during the severe weather.
According to reports, Gamang had been working continuously for several hours to coordinate shelter arrangements as heavy rains and gusty winds battered the region. Witnesses said he suddenly fell ill while performing his duties and collapsed at the site. He was immediately rushed to the Gajapati District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The untimely demise of Gamang has deeply saddened local residents and officials. The district administration has expressed heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family and acknowledged his commitment to public service during a critical time. Authorities are considering providing ex-gratia assistance in recognition of his dedicated service during the cyclone emergency.
