Youth ends life unable to bear mother’s cancer pain
Bhubaneswar, Oct 25: In a heartbreaking incident, the body of a 22-year-old youth from Balangir district was recovered from the Burla Power Canal near the Chipilima Hydro Electric Project days after he went missing. The deceased, Saurav Sambit Tripathy, a resident of Mahalakhmi Nagar in Balangir, had reportedly taken the extreme step after sending a desperate message to his cancer-stricken mother.
According to reports, on the evening of October 22, Saurav texted his hospitalized mother at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla, saying, “Mom, I can’t bear to see you suffer… I’ll end my life by jumping into the Burla canal.” Shortly after sending the message, he went missing from the Bhimsen area of Burla.
Despite frantic searches by his family, Saurav could not be located, prompting them to file a missing complaint at the Burla police station. Acting on the message, police and fire services personnel launched a search operation and eventually recovered his body from the canal near Chiplima Power House. The tragic incident has left the local community in deep sorrow and shock.
