Odisha fully prepared to face possible cyclone: Minister Suresh Pujari
Bhubaneswar, Oct 25: The Odisha Government is fully geared up to tackle any situation arising from the developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal, assured Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Friday.
With forecasts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) hinting at the possible formation of a cyclonic storm by October 27, the Minister said that the administration has taken all precautionary measures and urged citizens not to panic. “Whether a cyclone forms or not, the government is fully prepared. People should stay alert but calm,” Pujari said.
The Minister informed that cyclone shelters have been prepared, and the Health Department is on high alert. Adequate stocks of dry food, medicines, and emergency supplies have been ensured, while arrangements are in place to evacuate people from vulnerable coastal regions if required.
The Energy Department has been instructed to stay on standby for immediate restoration of power supply in case of disruptions.
According to the IMD, a low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm by October 27. Pujari emphasized that Odisha’s disaster management machinery is well-prepared to handle heavy rainfall and potential cyclone impacts.
