Bhubaneswar, Oct 15: Veteran political leader and former Bonai MLA Hemendra Prasad Mahapatra passed away at his residence in Khuntagaon village under Lahunipara block of Sundargarh district. He was 92 years old. His demise marks the end of an era in the region’s political and social landscape.
Mahapatra, known for his humility and strong connect with the people, was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly three times — in 1961, 1967, and 1971. During his tenure, he worked tirelessly for the upliftment of rural communities, improvement of education, and better infrastructure in the Bonai constituency.
