Vigilance arrests Kendrapara Tahsildar Siba Mallick for accumulating disproportionate assets

Bhubaneswar, Oct 10: In a major crackdown against corruption, Vigilance sleuths have arrested Siba Mallick, OAS officer and Tahsildar of Mahakalapada, for possessing disproportionate assets totaling 190% of his known sources of income.
Investigations revealed that Mallick had amassed four buildings, seven valuable plots, bank deposits of Rs 18 lakh, and cash of Rs 1.55 lakh, which he could not satisfactorily explain. Following the discovery, a case has been registered against him and his spouse under Sections 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
The arrest comes in the wake of a trap case registered on September 23, 2025, in which Mallick was caught demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a complainant. The bribe was sought to facilitate the eviction of an illegal structure obstructing access to the complainant’s house on government land.
Simultaneous searches were carried out at residences and locations linked to Mallick, during which the disproportionate assets were seized. The Vigilance department has confirmed that further investigation is ongoing to determine the full extent of the Tahsildar’s illegal accumulation of wealth.
This operation underscores the state government’s commitment to crack down on corruption and uphold transparency in public service.
