Rabid dog attacks 20 people in Cuttack’s Mahanga block; panic grips villages

Bhubaneswar, Oct 9: Panic spread across several villages in Cuttack district’s Mahanga block on Thursday after a rabid stray dog went on a rampage, biting at least 20 people and injuring three cows.
The attacks occurred in Nahanga, Podamarai, and Haldia panchayats, where the aggressive dog targeted unsuspecting villagers working in fields and on roadsides. Locals tried to chase it away, but several people were bitten before help arrived.
According to reports, the injured were immediately rushed to the Mahanga Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment. Those with severe wounds have been shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for further medical care and vaccination.
Forest and veterinary officials, along with local administration teams, have launched an operation to capture the dog to prevent more attacks. Health workers are also conducting an awareness drive, urging villagers to get anti-rabies shots and report any stray dog sightings.
The shocking incident has left residents in fear and anxiety, with many avoiding outdoor activities until the rabid animal is caught and the situation brought under control.
