Kidnapped Ward Member from Jajpur’s Ranpur Panchayat released after a week; political motive suspected

Bhubaneswar, Oct 9: In a dramatic turn of events, Ward Member Dhaneswar Sethy of Ranpur Panchayat’s Ward No. 3 in Jajpur district was released by his abductors on Wednesday night, nearly a week after his kidnapping.
According to reports, Sethy was abducted on October 1, and a case was registered at the Binjharpur police station soon after his disappearance. For days, his whereabouts remained unknown, causing anxiety among his family and villagers. However, on Wednesday evening, the abductors reportedly dropped him off near Binjharpur police station, from where he was rescued and safely reunited with his family.
Family members have alleged that Sethy’s kidnapping was politically motivated, claiming it was an attempt to stop him from participating in a no-confidence motion scheduled for October 8 at the Panchayat.
Police officials have begun a detailed investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding his abduction and release. Efforts are on to identify and nab the culprits, while the motive is being verified. Authorities have assured that those responsible for the crime will face strict legal action once the probe concludes.
