Three-year-old dies, family members critical after consuming fish curry in Bhadrak
Bhubaneswar, Sept 25: In a heartbreaking incident, a three-year-old boy lost his life while his twin brother, elder sister, and mother were left battling for survival after allegedly consuming contaminated fish curry in Basudevpur block of Bhadrak district.
According to reports, the tragedy struck the family of Surendra Bandha on Wednesday afternoon after they ate homemade fish curry. Initially, the meal appeared normal, but by evening, the family members began vomiting severely, a condition that persisted throughout the night. When their health deteriorated further by Thursday morning, neighbors rushed them to the Basudevpur Community Health Centre.
Doctors at the health centre declared the younger child, Sujit Bandha, dead on arrival. His twin brother Ajit, elder sister Lakshmi (13), and mother Kanaklata were found in critical condition and were immediately referred to Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital for advanced treatment.
Medical authorities later confirmed that Ajit’s health showed no signs of improvement, leading to his transfer to the Paediatric Department for specialized care. Meanwhile, health officials are investigating whether food poisoning caused the tragedy, which has cast a pall of grief over the locality.
