IMD issues multi-day weather alert for Odisha
Bhubaneswar, Sept 23: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded a multi-day weather alert for Odisha, warning of widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across several districts.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, a low-pressure area currently lies over coastal Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha. This system is expected to persist for the next 24 hours. More critically, a fresh low-pressure area is likely to develop over the northwest Bay of Bengal around September 25. It may intensify into a depression and cross the coasts of South Odisha and North Andhra Pradesh around September 27.
The IMD has issued colour-coded alerts for all 30 districts. On Day 1, an Orange Warning is in place for Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Koraput, and Malkangiri, while a Yellow Warning covers most other districts. The Orange alert will shift to western Odisha on Day 2 and southern districts on Day 3.
The IMD has cautioned against possible damage to crops, kutcha houses, roads, and localized flooding. People have been advised to avoid vulnerable structures and unnecessary travel during heavy downpours.
