Son succumbs two days after mother’s death in truck accident in Koraput
Bhubaneswar, Sept 16: Tragedy struck a family in Koraput district after a man succumbed to injuries sustained in a road accident, two days after losing his mother in the same mishap. The incident occurred on National Highway 26 near Bariniput under Jeypore police limits.
According to reports, the accident took place when a 14-wheeled truck carrying goods lost control and rammed into a roadside stall. An elderly woman present at the stall was killed on the spot, while her son, identified as Rabi Swain, sustained severe injuries. Rabi was immediately shifted to a hospital in Visakhapatnam for advanced treatment. Despite doctors’ efforts, he passed away on Tuesday, leaving behind his two young children, aged eight and four, who are now orphaned.
The double tragedy has cast a pall of gloom in the locality, with residents expressing grief and anger over frequent accidents caused by heavy vehicles on the highway. Police have launched an investigation to determine whether negligence or mechanical failure led to the mishap. Meanwhile, locals have demanded stricter enforcement of traffic rules and safety measures to prevent such recurring accidents.
