IMD issues weather alert for Odisha, heavy rain and thunderstorms likely till September 20

Bhubaneswar, Sept 15: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning for Odisha, forecasting heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in several districts over the next few days. The alert will remain in effect till September 20, officials confirmed.
According to the forecast, on September 17, heavy rain and thunderstorms with lightning accompanied by gusty winds reaching 30–40 kmph are expected at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Balasore. Additionally, thunderstorms with lightning and winds of similar intensity are likely in Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
For September 18, the IMD has predicted thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds in 14 districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh.
Residents of the affected districts have been advised to remain cautious, avoid open areas during thunderstorms, and take necessary safety measures. With the alert continuing till September 20, authorities have urged people to stay updated through official IMD bulletins and avoid spreading or believing in unverified weather-related rumours.
