Minor girl’s death sparks protest in Balasore; villagers allege medical negligence

Bhubaneswar, Aug 31: Tension gripped Raigadia village under Khaira block of Balasore district on Sunday after locals and family members of a deceased minor girl staged a road blockade, alleging that she died due to medical negligence.
The victim has been identified as Lipisita Ram, elder daughter of Balaram Ram. According to her father, Lipisita had been suffering from cold and fever for the past two days. On Saturday, she was taken to a private clinic at Tudigadia market, where she was treated by Dr. Debakanta Padhi.
“After the doctor gave her an injection, we brought her home. But her condition deteriorated suddenly. We rushed her to Balasore District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead,” Balaram told reporters. He further alleged that government doctors later hinted at wrong treatment being given earlier, which may have caused her death.
Agitated villagers blocked the road for hours, demanding justice and stern action against the doctor. The protest caused traffic disruption and heightened tension in the area. Meanwhile, Dr. Padhi has gone missing. Police reached the spot and assured villagers of a thorough investigation into the incident.
