Bhubaneswar, Aug 31: Odisha’s rising canoeing star Rashmita Sahoo received nationwide attention after Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned her achievements in his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat. Elated by the recognition, Rashmita expressed her determination to bring glory to India by winning a medal at the upcoming Asian Games.

Currently serving as a constable in Odisha Police, Rashmita trains at the Jagatpur Institute of the National Centre of Excellence. She recently shone at the Khelo India Water Sports Festival in Jammu and Kashmir, bagging two gold medals, which earned her a special mention from the Prime Minister.

Since beginning her career in 2017, Rashmita has won an impressive 41 medals—including 13 golds—at national-level events. Coming from a modest family in Choudwar, Cuttack, she credits her boating heritage, her late mother’s blessings, and support from her uncle and coaches for shaping her career.
