Body of young food delivery agent found on railway tracks in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Aug 31: A pall of gloom descended on Satya Nagar after the body of a young man was found on the railway tracks near Lingaraj Temple Road railway station on Sunday morning. The deceased has been identified as Sandesh Kumar Das, who worked as a food delivery agent for popular online platforms like Zomato and Swiggy.
According to sources, Sandesh had been struggling with financial stress. A close friend, recalling their meeting the previous night, said they had dinner together after Sandesh brought biryani. “He appeared disturbed and shared that his delivery earnings were too low to manage his expenses. I tried to cheer him up, telling him that things would improve,” the friend told reporters.
The two later played an online game before parting ways. Sandesh reportedly told his friend over a late-night call that he would continue deliveries until 4 am. Hours later, locals discovered his body on the tracks and immediately alerted the Government Railway Police (GRP).
GRP officials reached the spot, recovered the body, and sent it for post-mortem. While investigations are underway, the incident has highlighted the mounting pressures faced by gig economy workers.
