Odisha Assembly monsoon session to begin on September 18, key issues set to dominate discussions

Bhubaneswar, Aug 21: The monsoon session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly will commence on September 18 and continue till September 25, as per an official notification issued by the Speaker’s office. The session will have seven working days, making it a short yet crucial sitting.
Opposition parties, including the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and the Congress, have already begun strategizing to corner the government on a range of issues. Among the major concerns expected to be raised are the death of the FM College student in Balasore, the Balanga girl’s death case, the Gopalpur gangrape incident, and the long-standing Mahanadi water dispute. In addition, matters related to the Student Union elections, the OTET question paper leak, and compensation for recent flood victims are likely to dominate opposition attacks.
The ruling government, meanwhile, is preparing to introduce several important bills during the session, signaling that legislative business will also be a key focus. With both sides determined to push their agendas, the upcoming Assembly session is expected to witness heated debates and intense political exchanges on issues directly impacting the people of Odisha.
