Bhubaneswar, Aug 19: In a major boost to Odisha’s industrial growth, JSW Steel and POSCO have announced a collaboration to establish a state-of-the-art integrated steel plant in Keonjhar district with an annual production capacity of 6 million metric tons (MTPA).
The announcement was made by Industries Minister Sampad Chandra Swain during his recent visit to Angul. The project took shape at the ‘Utkarsh Odisha’ – Make in Odisha Conclave, where JSW Steel signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the venture. The proposal has already been approved by the High-Level Clearance Authority (HLCA) headed by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, highlighting the government’s commitment to fast-tracking industrial projects.
Minister Swain informed that land acquisition and preparatory works are progressing rapidly, with the state government extending full support to ensure smooth implementation. He emphasized that the project would not only strengthen Odisha’s position in the steel sector but also create significant employment opportunities.
In addition to the steel plant, the state is also advancing plans for an FDI Park to attract global investors. Furthermore, the cabinet has cleared proposals for two semiconductor manufacturing units, further consolidating Odisha’s image as an emerging hub for heavy industries and high-tech investments.
