CCEA approves ₹8,307 crore Capital Region Ring Road project in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Aug 19: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday approved the construction of a six-lane, access-controlled Capital Region Ring Road (CRRR) in Odisha. The project, covering 110.875 km from Bhubaneswar Bypass, will be built under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM) at a cost of ₹8,307.74 crore.
The alignment will integrate with three major National Highways—NH-55, NH-57, and NH-655—along with State Highway-65, ensuring seamless connectivity to key economic, social, and logistics hubs across the state.
According to the government, the project will generate about 74.43 lakh person-days of direct employment and 93.04 lakh person-days of indirect employment, boosting local livelihoods. It will also improve multi-modal integration by linking 10 economic nodes, 4 social nodes, and 5 logistics nodes, while connecting to a major railway station, Biju Patnaik International Airport, a proposed Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP), and two major ports.
Currently, the Rameshwar–Tangi stretch of NH faces severe congestion as it passes through urban centres like Khordha, Bhubaneswar, and Cuttack. The new Greenfield highway will ease traffic, divert heavy commercial vehicles, and significantly cut logistics costs.
Once completed, the Capital Region Ring Road is expected to strengthen regional connectivity, decongest urban areas, and accelerate socio-economic growth in Odisha and other eastern states, opening new avenues for trade, industry, and tourism.
