Odisha Law Minister warns of strict action against use of spy cameras in Puri Jagannath Temple

Bhubaneswar, Aug 5: Raising serious concern over the growing misuse of hidden cameras inside the sacred Puri Jagannath Temple, Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan on Tuesday issued a stern warning to individuals attempting to take unauthorized photos or videos within the temple premises.
The Minister expressed alarm over the rising trend of using spy cameras embedded in spectacles, which are difficult for security personnel to detect during routine checks. “These cameras often go unnoticed until a flash is triggered during photography. This is a matter of serious concern. We are reviewing existing security protocols and will soon implement stricter checking procedures to prevent such breaches,” Harichandan said.
His statement came in the wake of a fresh incident where a youth from West Bengal was caught attempting to record visuals inside the temple using a hidden camera embedded in his spectacles. This marks the third such incident in recent weeks, following similar attempts by two others from Puri and Gujarat.
The Minister emphasized that strict legal action will be taken against anyone violating temple regulations and disrespecting its sanctity.
