Shovana Mohanty appointed Chairperson of Odisha State Commission for Women

Bhubaneswar, Aug 5: The Odisha Government on Tuesday appointed Shovana Mohanty from Karanjia in Remuna block of Balasore district as the new Chairperson of the Odisha State Commission for Women.
According to an official notification issued by the Department of Women & Child Development, her appointment has been made under Section 3(1) and Section 3(2)(b) of the Odisha State Commission for Women Act, 1993. Mohanty will take charge with immediate effect and is expected to serve a term of up to three years from the date of the notification.
As Chairperson, Mohanty will be responsible for safeguarding and promoting the rights of women across the state. She will discharge duties and wield powers as defined under the Act, including handling complaints, making recommendations to the government, and raising awareness on issues affecting women.
The notification further stated that her salary, allowances, and other service conditions will be determined by the government as per prevailing norms. The appointment will also be published in the upcoming issue of the Odisha Gazette, making it officially recognized.
