Odisha Vigilance arrests Boudh MVI for amassing disproportionate assets

Bhubaneswar, Aug 4: In a major crackdown on corruption, Odisha Vigilance officials have arrested Golap Chandra Hansdah, a Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) posted in Boudh district, for possessing assets grossly disproportionate to his known sources of income.
During raids conducted at multiple locations linked to Hansdah, Vigilance sleuths uncovered an array of unaccounted assets. These included a multi-storeyed building, 44 land plots, 1 kg of gold (including two 50-gram gold biscuits), over 2 kg of silver, more than ₹2.38 lakh in cash, and bank deposits exceeding ₹1.34 crore. Additionally, investigators found evidence that he had spent ₹40 lakh towards his daughter’s medical education.
A diary was also seized, containing handwritten records of suspected benami financial transactions. Hansdah failed to provide satisfactory explanations for the assets in his possession, leading to his arrest.
A case has been registered under Balasore Vigilance Police Station (Case No. 7/2025). Hansdah is scheduled to be produced before the Special Vigilance Court in Baripada. Vigilance authorities stated that further investigation is ongoing to trace the full extent of the disproportionate wealth and identify any possible accomplices.
