IMD issues yellow warning for 20 Odisha districts, thunderstorms and gusty winds likely tomorrow

Bhubaneswar, Aug 1: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for 20 districts in Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds ranging from 30 to 40 kmph on Friday. The affected districts include Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Central Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Sundargarh.
As per the IMD bulletin, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at a few places across the state. The weather activity is attributed to moisture incursion and local atmospheric disturbances.
The yellow warning signifies a "be aware" alert, advising people to stay cautious as thunderstorms may disrupt outdoor activities. People are urged to stay indoors during lightning, avoid taking shelter under trees, and secure loose objects to prevent damage from gusty winds.
The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has also asked local administrations to remain prepared to handle any weather-related emergencies. Citizens, especially in vulnerable rural areas, are requested to stay updated with weather advisories and take all necessary precautions.
