Cuttack RTO slaps Rs 10 lakh fine on passenger bus for operating without documents

Bhubaneswar, July 31: In a major crackdown on traffic violations, the Cuttack Regional Transport Office (RTO) has imposed a hefty fine of ₹10 lakh on a passenger bus named Shivshankar for operating without valid documents. The action was taken on Wednesday after RTO officials found the vehicle flouting several mandatory legal requirements.
According to officials, the bus was found plying without a valid fitness certificate, insurance papers, pollution under control (PUC) certificate, and a proper permit. These serious lapses not only violated provisions under the Motor Vehicles Act but also posed a significant risk to passenger safety.
The RTO has ordered the bus owner to deposit the fine amount and take immediate steps to regularize the vehicle's documentation before the vehicle can be released.
This move by the Cuttack RTO serves as a strict warning to other vehicle operators in the region. Authorities have reiterated the importance of complying with all legal and safety requirements to ensure public safety and maintain lawful operation on the roads. Further inspections are likely to follow in the coming days.
