Bridge collapses in Sunabeda Sanctuary amid heavy rains, villages cut off in Nuapada
Bhubaneswar, July 24: Relentless rainfall in western Odisha has triggered widespread disruption, with a major bridge collapse reported in the Sunabeda Wildlife Sanctuary area of Nuapada district. The incident occurred late Wednesday night, when the Tetalkhuti culvert, a decades-old structure connecting Sunabeda and Gatibeda villages under the Sunabeda panchayat in Komna block, was washed away due to continuous downpour and waterlogging.
The collapse of the bridge has severely impacted transportation and communication in the region, cutting off several villages from the main road network. Bus services have been suspended, while several roads remain blocked due to fallen trees, including a massive tree that crashed onto the road at Jamgaon Ghati, causing further hindrance to movement.
The affected villages are now struggling to access essential services such as healthcare, markets, and emergency aid. With no alternative routes available, residents are finding it difficult to transport people and goods, deepening the ongoing monsoon-related hardships.
District authorities have been alerted, and emergency teams have been deployed to assess the situation. Restoration work is underway to re-establish connectivity and provide relief to the isolated communities. The administration is also working on clearing debris and ensuring essential supplies reach the stranded villages.
